Welcome to my E-Portfolio.
I am currently an undergraduate student at the Pennsylvania State University, and I am studying anthropology and Spanish. During my first year at Penn State, I have had the opportunity to learn and grow in both my academics and my character. Academics have been my biggest priority this year, and I have worked hard to achieve above-average grades, while ensuring that I am gaining skills and knowledge from every course I take. Along with this, though, I have also worked to gain knowledge and experience in my own field by engaging in opportunities outside of class. For example, I have been working with one of my professors to develop research skills by helping her with her research, as well as by developing my own ideas about research topics. In addition, I work in an archaeology lab, where I have been introduced to other research techniques. Both of these research-oriented opportunities have given me the chance to explore many aspects of anthropology.
I also feel that my writing as improved tremendously as a result of the opportunities I have had to write more academic papers and essays. I have a more critical approach to my writing than I have ever had prior to this year, and I make a more conscious effort to consider my audience and the rhetorical choices that I use. The pieces of writing that I have chosen for my e-portfolio showcase my best abilities in these areas, so I encourage you to explore the different types of writing throughout this website.
While my advancements in academics have been the most important aspect of my freshman year, the development of my character is almost as important to me. This year has truly been a transition year, in which I have learned a great deal about myself. I have gained a great deal of independence as a result of moving to college, and I have taken on a great deal of responsibility as a result. I have developed my leadership skills by being heavily involved in many organizations and activities around campus. I feel I have matured in many ways as a result of my first year at Penn State.
This past year has given me the opportunity to flourish in both my academics and my character. I greatly look forward to seeing what the next few years have to offer as I continue to grow and develop into an even better version of myself.
